You have just inherited a Dell PowerEdge system to use in your environment or may be you bought one second hand and you do not have the credentials to the iDRAC. How do you reset the network settings to match your Data Centre/Lab subnet? Well, let’s have a look in this post.

Requirements:

  1. 1x Monitor with VGA connection
  2. 1x USB Keyboard
  3. 1x USB Mouse (optional)

Scenario 1:

Changing iDRAC root password

If the system is powered off:

  • Power On the system

  • Wait for the boot options to appear on the screen – this may take couple of minutes.
  • Press F2 Function key on the keyboard to enter the System Setup.

  • Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight iDRAC Setting, press Enter key to select

  • Again, use the arrow key navigate to User Configuration and press Enter key to select

  • Again, use the arrow keys to navigate to Change Password field and press Enter key to select

  • The new password must comply with below policy
  • Enter the new password and press Enter key to proceed.

  • Enter the same password again to confirm.

Scenario 2:

Update/change iDRAC DNS name and Network Settings to match your network subnet:

If the system is powered off:

  • Power On the system

  • Wait for the boot options to appear on the screen – this may take couple of minutes.
  • Press F2 Function key on the keyboard to enter the System Setup.

  • Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight iDRAC Setting, press Enter key to select

  • Again, use the arrow key navigate to Network and press Enter key to select.

  • Use the Arrow Keys to navigate to the Network settings.
  • Update the DNS DRAC Name
  • Update the IPV4 Settings to make required changes to the iDRAC Network card

Scenario 3:

Reset iDRAC to factory default settings.

If the system is powered off:

  • Power On the system

  • Wait for the boot options to appear on the screen – this may take couple of minutes.
  • Press F2 Function key on the keyboard to enter the System Setup.

  • Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight iDRAC Setting, press Enter key to select

  • Use the Arrow keys to navigate to Reset iDRAC configurations to default factory settings and press Enter key to select.

  • Navigate and Select Yes to confirm.
